Civil Right group condemned Suu Kyi's stand on Rohingya genocide

"The Rohingya, native ethnic and religious minority of Arakan state of Burma (Myanmar), have been suffering untold discriminations and inhumane persecutions for more than five decades and are one of the most persecuted people in the world. The non Burmese comprising over 30% of the population in Burma have been systematically targeted by the racist nationalist groups and military junta (yes, both the hunter and the victim!) to strip of their civilian rights and the Rohingya stand apart in that as their very existence is threatened."

Condemning the stand of Nobel laureate Aung san Suu Kyi on the issues and plight of Rohingyas, Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) criticized Burma’s champion of democracy for not recognising this state sponsored genocide and for discrediting the struggle of Rohingya by reducing it to an issue of mere ‘law and order’.  In a release, APCR stated, “The political position of Suu Kyi, the daughter of respected Aung san who stood for democracy peace and minority rights in Burma is highly condemnable in all respects.”
The Rohingya, native ethnic and religious minority of Arakan state of Burma (Myanmar), have been suffering untold discriminations and inhumane persecutions for more than five decades and are one of the most persecuted people in the world.
The non Burmese comprising over 30% of the population in Burma have been systematically targeted by the racist nationalist groups and military junta (yes, both the hunter and the victim!) to strip of their civilian rights and the Rohingya stand apart in that as their very existence is threatened.
Recently, Burma has become a silent field of state sponsored genocide where hundreds of Rohingya are killed, more than 100,000 have fled. In Burma, currently foreign media, investigation teams and aid groups are banned. Unfortunately many prominent Burmese democratic activists from inside and outside Burma who fought against the military junta have been calling the military to "wipe out" or "cleanse" Rohingya from the state of Arakan. Also in the name of national security they are busy spreading anti-Rohingya sentiments through Burmese media which is playing a great role in hiding the real truth and propagating the biased news to fuel further violence.
With Nazi-kind propaganda machine in place, Burmese society is evidently influenced with malevolent propaganda against Rohingya as "Bengali", "Illegal Immigrant", "Influx virus", “the dirty black” "lower class" and even "terrorist".  The hostility towards Rohingya has intensified after an alleged incident which has lead to killing of 10 Muslims by 100 Buddhist mobs and spread all over Arakan state on 8th June 2012 causing numerous villages to be burnt down, countless mosques and historical monuments destroyed and demolished, various properties looted, thousands of innocent Rohingya killed, uncounted number of defenceless girls raped, youths and educated Rohingya kidnapped and more than 100000 people displaced.
Alleging that Ms. Suu Kyi has remained silent on this state sponsored genocide instead of spreading the voice of Budhist compassion (as she and her party claim), APCR criticised Suu Kyi for refusing to support or even recognize the plight of 2 million persecuted Rohingyas saying, “Moreover, for her who proved to be a Burmese pseudo nationalist uncared for the differences in Burmese society, the genocide and mass exodus are nothing but cross border terrorism that needs a strict maintenance of rule of  law.”
Stating that the state sponsored genocide of Rohingya in Burma is yet another example of witch-hunting the innocent minorities in the name of national security, APCR appealed people to be vigilant on such racist jingoist propagandas that lead to violence and communal tension.
As a major development in regard to the issues of the Rohingya minorities, Myanmar’s President has made a statement to consider a few rights for the stateless Rohingya minority. However, the statement made no concrete commitment about citizenship and other new freedoms. Issued ahead of a landmark visit by President Barack Obama, many of the human right activists are in doubt if it is just an eyewash attempt by President Thein Sein intended only to please the US President.
