UN humanitarian chief to visit Bangladesh, Myanmar and Thailand

Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Valerie Amos, will travel to Bangladesh, Myanmar and Thailand next month.

The mission is the first official visit to Bangladesh and Myanmar by Amos in her role as UN Humanitarian Chief.

In Bangladesh, Amos plans to meet government officials and the National Disaster Management and Relief Agency, non-governmental organizations, and UN country team to discuss disaster preparedness.

In Myanmar, USG Amos will highlight humanitarian concerns in the country and discuss with the Myanmar authorities concrete steps to address the challenges and move towards reconciliation and stability.

During her visit, Amos will visit Kachin and Rakhine States. A press briefing will be held in Yangon on December 7, the last day of her visit to Myanmar.

Amos will hold a press briefing in Bangkok the following day to talk about her mission and its findings with regional media.
